Car insurance in Trinidad and Tobago
Third party is the law. Comprehensive is what saves you when a truck reverses into your bumper on the Beetham. We'll tell you which one your car actually needs.
What you're actually choosing between
Most people pick a level once and never revisit it. Your car depreciates every year — the right answer changes with it.
Third party only
The legal minimum
Covers injury and property damage you cause to other people. Nothing towards your own vehicle.
- Cheapest premium
- Satisfies the law
- Sensible for older, low-value vehicles
If you write off your own car, you pay for it yourself.
Comprehensive
Everything, both directions
Third party liability plus damage to your own vehicle — whoever caused it.
- Collision, even when it's your fault
- Flood and storm damage
- Fire, theft and attempted theft
- Windscreen cover
- Roadside assistance available
Third party, fire & theft
The middle ground
Third party liability plus cover if your vehicle is stolen or burns. Still no collision cover.
- Theft and attempted theft
- Fire damage
- Useful if theft is your main worry

This table is a general guide. Every policy has its own excess, limits, conditions and exclusions. We'll go through the actual wording on your quote with you before you commit to anything.
Why your neighbour pays less than you
Motor premiums in T&T are rated on statistical risk. Nobody is picking a number out of the air — but a few of these you can actually influence.
- Your age and experience. Younger and newly licensed drivers rate higher. This one fixes itself.
- The vehicle itself. Value, engine size, and how expensive its parts are to source locally.
- Your no-claim discount. The single biggest lever most drivers have. Years without a claim compound.
- Your excess. Agreeing to carry more of a claim yourself lowers the premium.
- Use. Private use rates differently from hire, PH or commercial use — declare it honestly, or a claim can be refused.
- Named drivers. Who else drives it, and how old they are.
Bring us your renewal notice. We'll read it line by line and tell you whether you're paying for cover you don't use.
Four things that catch T&T drivers out
Flood is not automatic
Water damage to your engine is a comprehensive-only benefit. Every rainy season we get calls from drivers on third party who assumed otherwise.
Your certificate matters
Keep the certificate of insurance in the vehicle. It's what the police ask for, and it's what you produce at inspection time.
Report it, even if it's small
Not reporting a minor bump to save your no-claim discount can void cover if the other driver claims months later. Tell us first, decide after.
Don't let it lapse
A gap of even a few days means driving uninsured — an offence, and personal liability for every dollar of any accident. Set a reminder; better yet, let us set it.

All questionsYes. Third party motor insurance is required by law for any vehicle used in a public place in Trinidad and Tobago. Driving without it is an offence, and separately from any penalty, you become personally responsible for the full cost of injury or damage you cause.
There's no single price — premiums are individually rated on your age, driving history, the vehicle, the level of cover and the excess you accept. Two people with the same car can pay very different amounts. The only honest answer is a quote against your actual details, which takes us about a day.
Comprehensive motor policies generally cover flood damage to your vehicle, and this matters a great deal here. Third party and third-party-fire-and-theft policies do not. Note that driving deliberately into visibly flooded roadway can affect a claim — check the wording on your specific policy with us.
Usually yes. You'll need a no-claim letter or renewal notice from your current insurer confirming how many claim-free years you've built up. Send it to us with your quote request and we'll make sure the discount carries across rather than restarting at zero.
Make, model and year of the vehicle; its estimated value; your date of birth and how long you've been driving; whether the use is private or commercial; and your claims history for the last few years. A photo of your current certificate or renewal notice covers most of it in one go.
Often the same day, once we have the vehicle details and payment is settled. If you're collecting a vehicle and need cover to drive it away, tell us the day before and we'll have it ready.
Let's price your vehicle properly.
Send us your renewal notice or just the make, model and year. You'll have a real number back — usually within a day.
